Catastrophic Flooding at Camp Mystic in Kerr County Leaves at Least 13 Dead, Over 20 Campers Missing

KERR COUNTY, Texas – July 4, 2025 – Catastrophic flooding along the Guadalupe River has devastated Camp Mystic, a private Christian summer camp for girls in Kerr County, Texas. The disaster has left at least 13 people dead and more than 20 campers missing, as emergency crews race to locate those unaccounted for following torrential overnight rains.

Authorities report that up to 10 inches of rain fell in the area, causing the Guadalupe River to reach its second-highest level on record. The flooding swept away cabins, washed out highways, and left the camp without power, water, or communications. Parents of missing campers have been notified directly by camp officials, while those whose children are safe have also received confirmation.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, acting as governor, stated that 23 girls out of approximately 750 campers remain unaccounted for, and emphasized the state's commitment to an exhaustive search: “We will do everything humanly possible, 24/7, looking at every tree, turning over every rock, to find these young girls.” Hundreds of search and rescue personnel, including Texas Game Wardens and Task Force 1, have been deployed, utilizing boats and helicopters to comb the flooded region, with a focus on summer camps and low-lying neighborhoods.

Among the missing are Jeff and Amber Wilson and their son Shiloh, last seen at a nearby campground, and a student named Greta from Sinclair, whose family has requested her photo be shared widely. Other families, including those of Eloise Peck, Lila Bonner, and Kellyanne Lytal, have also reported their children missing.

Officials urge residents to shelter in place and avoid travel, especially near creeks, streams, and the Guadalupe River, as additional rain is forecast and floodwaters continue to pose extreme danger. Authorities have warned private citizens not to fly drones over the area to avoid interfering with rescue operations.
