Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett Under FEC Investigation, Faces Assault Allegations
Dallas, TX ā U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is facing mounting scrutiny after the Federal Election Commission (FEC) opened an investigation into her campaignās fundraising practices and allegations of assault surfaced against her.
The FEC probe centers on donations made to Crockettās 2024 campaign via ActBlue, a major Democratic fundraising platform. The investigation follows a complaint filed by the conservative Coolidge Reagan Foundation, which alleges Crockettās campaign accepted 56 separate donations totaling $610 from a 73-year-old retiree who was reportedly unaware of the contributions made in his name. The complaint contends this may indicate a broader pattern of fraudulent donations and possible violations of federal election law, including the use of so-called āstraw donors,ā where contributions are made in the names of individuals who did not authorize them.
According to FEC records, Crockettās campaign has received over $870,000 through ActBlue, raising concerns about the legitimacy of other donations as well. The FEC notified the parties involved in early April that it would review the matter, and Crockett has been given an opportunity to respond to the allegations. The agency typically does not comment on ongoing investigations, and as of now, Crockettās office has not issued a public statement regarding the case.
In addition to the campaign finance investigation, Crockett is also facing accusations of assault and battery after an alleged altercation with a reporter who reportedly encroached on her personal space. Details of the incident remain limited, but the allegations have intensified calls from critics for House Speaker Mike Johnson to suspend Crockett from her committee assignments, including her role as vice ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, until the investigations are resolved.
The controversy has sparked debate in Washington over congressional conduct and the accountability of public officials. Crockett, a first-term lawmaker representing Texasā 30th Congressional District, has not publicly addressed either the FEC investigation or the assault allegations as of Friday morning. Her office has been contacted for comment.
The developments come as ActBlue and Democratic fundraising practices face increasing scrutiny from Republican lawmakers and state attorneys general, with broader questions raised about the integrity of small-dollar online donations. The FEC investigation is ongoing, and further actions may depend on Crockettās response and the agencyās findings.
