Gaza Faces Escalating Humanitarian Crisis Amid Ongoing Conflict

Gaza, June 28, 2025 – The humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a critical point as Israeli military operations intensify, targeting both Palestinian civilians and essential infrastructure. Recent reports indicate that Israeli forces have opened fire on Palestinians desperate for food aid in southern Gaza, resulting in numerous casualties. Medical sources confirm that dozens have been killed in ongoing bombings and tank advances in both northern and southern regions of the territory.

The United Nations has described conditions in northern Gaza as "apocalyptic," warning that the entire population faces imminent risk of death due to starvation, lack of clean water, and exposure to extreme weather. More than 1.9 million Palestinians have been displaced, with over two million residents—half of them children—now lacking access to sufficient food, water, or medical care. The healthcare system is near collapse, with widespread destruction of medical facilities and severe shortages of supplies.

Since October 2023, the conflict has resulted in at least 56,156 Palestinian deaths and over 132,000 injuries in Gaza, according to the Ministry of Health and United Nations sources. Israeli military actions, including airstrikes and ground operations, have devastated neighborhoods and forced repeated mass displacements. The blockade and closure of Gaza have further hampered humanitarian aid efforts, leaving many areas without access to food, water, electricity, fuel, or medical supplies.

Aid organizations report that attempts to distribute food and other essentials are met with violence, with over 410 Palestinians reportedly killed while seeking food at distribution points since late May 2025. At least 93 others have been killed approaching the few available aid convoys, and more than 3,000 have been injured in these incidents. The United Nations and humanitarian agencies are calling for an immediate ceasefire to protect civilians, enable the safe delivery of aid, and prevent further loss of life.

As the crisis deepens, international pressure is mounting for all parties to uphold international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure. The people of Gaza face a dire future unless urgent action is taken to restore access to lifesaving assistance and end the ongoing violence.
